Hello fellow sleuths! I've recently received a few comments saying that my most popular video, "Nancy Drew Music: Study Mix" has had some ads appearing during the video. This didn't make me happy. Back when I first uploaded the video, I didn't expect a few things. First, I didn't expect it to be the most popular and most watched video on my channel. I'm incredibly honored that people enjoy the mix and listen to it everyday! Second, I didn't expect to be hit with a copyright claim for 2 songs in the mix: Cello 2 and Cello 3 from Nancy Drew: Warnings at Waverly Academy. This claim prevented me to have any control over the ads unless I a) removed the songs, b) claimed that I held the necessary rights to the songs, or c) claimed that it was a cover that I performed. B and C were out of the picture because they're both false. I didn't want to go with option A either because I edited the songs together so that they flowed from one track to the next. Editing the video in YouTube Studio would just add jarring transitions between songs. So... I let it go for almost a year. A couple days ago, a viewer left a comment saying that they started getting ads on the video. My first thought was that it for sure wasn't me. My second thought was wondering why they're just now starting to show up. Regardless, I was rather annoyed because having ads every couple minutes in a 2 hour music mix is the last thing anybody wants. Today, I received another comment saying the same thing as the first comment. I wasn't about to let YouTube take the enjoyment out this wonderful music, so I gave in and cut out the two songs that were causing problems. As I suspected, this resulted in jarring transitions between the songs, however it also meant that I now had full control over the ads. In order to try and keep things the way they were, I disabled all skippable and non-skippable ads so that the viewer could enjoy a full 2 hour music stream. I'm still rather uncomfortable at the idea of having the jarring transitions, but I also don't want to re-upload the video because that would cause a lot of confusion for people and I hate having to re-upload videos. Whatever, I'll leave it for now. If I start getting comments about people being too annoyed at the transition, then I'll go ahead and re-upload the video. In case you haven't watched/listened to the video, you can do so here: That about wraps up today's post! Until next time, detectives!
