Hello fellow sleuths! I'm super excited to talk about a work-in-progress Nancy Drew fan project from Russian Nancy Drew fan Mikel! As many are aware, the version of Midnight in Salem that was shipped was very far from what was originally planned and in the works with the original team. However, because of the way the game was made, the 3D scene files were significantly more accessible than all the previous games. What Mikel decided to do was try and recreate the Parry House in Blender in order to create a high-res render just like the one that HeR initially released for the game. Over the course of a few months, Mikel lit, textured, and rendered 50 shots from inside the Parry House and is working on making an interactive demo using the old Nancy Drew games format where you can explore the Parry House! I talk about it all in this video: You can see his main render in the thumbnail of the video, but in case you want to see it in a higher resolution, click on the image below to enlarge it! How beautiful is this? The work Mikel is doing is so amazing and it truly makes me wish they had just stuck with the old format of ND games when they made MID. It would've been the greatest thing ever.
Did I mention that you can download this 4K render for your self? Well, you can! Click on this sentence to download it! Anyways, what do you guys think of this? I personally am so excited for Mikel to finish the project because I so desperately want to play it! As soon as it launches, I'll be recording a video on it! Stay tuned! In the meantime, please go give Mikel a follow on Instagram! He occasionally posts updates as time goes on and has a whole story archive of his work on the project. You can follow him here. That about wraps up today's post. Until next time, detectives! Huw
