Fun Facts:
  • HeR Interactive updated their game engine to support games with a larger resolution starting with Tomb of the Lost Queen. Instead of 800 x 600 pixels, the games were now 1024 x 768 pixels.
  • Tomb of the Lost Queen introduced a new main menu style to the games to replace Nancy's desk.
  • Instead of playing the Nancy Drew theme song on loop during the main menu similar to games 2-15, a specified track from the game played.
  • Kevin Manthei stopped scoring the Nancy Drew games with Alibi in Ashes and replaced with Thomas Regin of North by Sound. Regin composed this and the next 6 games.
  • This game introduced a brand-new UI and selection of cursor icons. Instead of having the inventory, notes, and journal as buttons on the UI, they were now always open and accessible thanks to the new UI frame.
  • HeR stopped using the terms 'Junior Detective' and 'Senior Detective' to contrast the two difficulty modes. Starting with this game, they introduced 'Amateur Sleuth' and 'Master Sleuth' levels.
  • This game was intended to be ported to mobile devices by being funded through Kickstarter, but never reached it's fundraising goal and didn't end up getting made.
  • If you pre-ordered this game, you would get the Bonus Edition where you would be able to call S.P.I.E.D. (Strange Phenomenon Investigators - Extraterrestrial Division) which is a corporation Sonny Joon is a part of.
  • This was the final game to include a cardboard slipcase for the game. You could only get the slipcase if you purchased the game from a retail outlet such as Walmart or GameStop.
  • This was the first game to have a digital-only strategy guide. Every Nancy Drew game before this one had a physical strategy guide and most had a digital version available.
  • Starting on January 14, 2013, HeR Interactive began including a free strategy guide with every game purchased on their site. It still applies to both digital and physical purchases of the games.
  • Starting with this game, HeR started selling the game soundtracks on a per game basis with separated tracks instead of in volumes with tracks that were edited together into suites.
  • The various menu and settings pop-ups have a red, floral design used as the background. That same floral design was originally used on Lily's footlocker as a metal texture.
  • This was the final game to use the end-game meta awards style that was introduced in Legend of the Crystal Skull. Starting with The Deadly Device, they changed the look to further match the style of the new UI. Instead of checkboxes, each award was in the style of a trophy.
  • Whenever you purchase this game digitally from HeR Interactive's online store, you will get the Bonus Edition of the game.

Rachel Vaughn

Rachel Vaughn was a huge Nancy Drew fan. At the age of 17, it was discovered that she had cancer in one of her kidneys. Through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, she was able to meet some of the game creators before she passed. HeR Interactive dedicated the game to Rachel and included some images of her in the game.

Rachel was also included as a character in the following game, The Deadly Device. HeR Interactive made a custom portrait of Rachel and wrote her into the game as Ellie York's cousin.
