Fun Facts:
  • This was the second game to feature Deirdre Shannon and the first game to have her as a phone contact instead of a physical character.
  • Niko Jovic was voiced by former 3D artist Josh Crandall and modeled after Bill Nye the Science Guy.
  • Josh Crandall bought a Christmas sweater similar to the one that Niko wears after the game came out.
  • The voice of Gray Cortright (Mark Dodson) was also one of the voices in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. He played Salacious Crumb, the Kowakian monkey-lizard who is always sitting and laughing with Jabba the Hutt.
  • Jovic Tech (Niko's technology company) creates a few devices that show up in later games such as the EMP reader in Ghost of Thornton Hall.
  • The mini-game Aggregation that can be played in the lounge was originally supposed to be included in Secrets Can Kill REMASTERED. However, due to time constraints it was shelved and fully finished in time for this game to release.
  • Some of the actual Lua code for The Deadly Device can be viewed on Ellie's computer.
  • The background on Ellie's computer is a foreshadow to the next game in the series: Ghost of Thornton Hall.
  • The art piece hanging on the wall in the research office is the finished slider puzzle from gates of The Haunting of Castle Malloy.
  • Rachel Vaughn, a Nancy Drew fan who passed away at 17 due to kidney cancer, was honored in this game by making her Ellie's in-game cousin. HeR Interactive dedicated Tomb of the Lost Queen to Rachel and continued her legacy in The Deadly Device.
  • During the closing letter of the game, Nancy talks about the fight between Mason and Gray. An image of them fighting in the expo center from Shadow at the Water's Edge is shown.
  • Nancy's pillow cases feature the Koko Kringle design. Little Jackalope convinced the artist who designed the room to change Nancy's pillow case to that artwork instead of the original art that was being used as an Easter egg for the fans.
  • HeR Interactive held a contest during the pre-order period for this game in which the prize was being able to choose the location for The Shattered Medallion.
  • This was the first game to use the trophy-style meta awards at the end of the game. This style continued for the next 5 games before being changed again in Midnight in Salem.
  • Victor Lossett was visually based off of Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane/The Iron Monger in Iron Man (2008).
  • Whenever you purchase this game digitally from HeR Interactive's online store, you will get the Bonus Edition of the game.

Characters

Picture
Ellie York
Ellie York works the night shift in the research department. She is a little evasive and does not get along well with Mason, which drove her to work opposite shifts. While appearing genuinely shaken, her actions after Niko’s death seem to indicate that she could be hiding something.
Picture
Gray Cortright
Gray Cortright is the head of security and knows the security system well. Not the friendly type, he comes across as a little intimidating and is not forthcoming while being questioned. His knowledge and unrestricted access to all areas provide plenty of opportunity for sneaking around unnoticed.
Picture
Mason Quinto
Mason Quinto is the smart, driven and arrogant senior lab assistant. He likes structure and perfection, and values his work. Unlike Niko, Mason believes in proprietary rights. How far will he go to get the credit for his work that he thinks he deserves?
Picture
Ryan Kilpatrick
Ryan Kilpatrick is the tech geek girl and has built and modified several parts of the lab. Her knowledge of the Tesla coil makes her a prime suspect. Is her nice girl image genuine or an act?
Picture
Victor Lossett
Victor Lossett is the co-owner of the lab and has hired you to solve the cold case murder. Eager for the case to be solved, he pushes Nancy to find the culprit. Niko’s work and name appear to be very important to him, but there could be more to this mystery than meets the eye.
Picture
Deirdre Shannon
Deirdre Shannon returns as a phone friend to assist Nancy in her investigation. Though the girls grew up together, she’s never really been a fan of Nancy’s, but helping her out could mean a better grade in her criminology class back in the girls’ hometown of River Heights.
Picture
Frank and Joe Hardy
Frank and Joe Hardy are available by phone to once again assist Nancy in her investigation. As big fans of Nikola Tesla, they are eager to hear about the case and to help in any way they can.
Picture
Niko Jovic
Rumor in the scientific community was that leading physicist Niko Jovic had discovered the secret to wireless energy transfer. But before he could release his findings to the world, he was found murdered. Like Tesla, Niko was clever yet secretive. Could someone be looking for what he left behind?
