Fun Facts:
  • When HeR was founded in 1994, it immediately began constructing McKenzie & Co. Just over a year later, it released to the public.
  • While being made, HeR Interactive was called "Games for Her". After McKenzie & Co. released, it became HeR Interactive.
  • McKenzie & Co. was developed using the program Macromedia Shockwave Director 4.0.1.
  • In its lifetime, the game sold over 80000 copies. At the time, a blockbuster game sold 100000 copies, so it did very well considering it was a game designed for girls in the 1990s.
  • According to an article from the Chicago Tribune posted January 3, 1996, it cost HeR Interactive $1.5 million to make McKenzie & Co.
  • HeR Interactive conducted surveys and interviews with 2000 girls aged 9-15 to figure out what that demographic would like in a video game.
  • A European kids magazine called ‘PC Kids’ featured a demo disc with a bunch of game demos including the demo for McKenzie and Co. Previously, the demo was only available directly through HeR Interactive.
  • The base game for McKenzie & Co. came with 5 game discs, and the add-on released the following year introduced 3 more game discs.
  • Game producer Sheri Graner never got recognition for all the work she did to make this game release because her and a programmer decided to leave some development quotes in the game’s code as ‘Easter eggs’ for the players to find.
