Focal FAQ How To Why can’t I post or share to Instagram, or comment on any Instagram photos or videos? We really wish you could, but Instagram doesn’t allow third party apps like focal to do this. We’re hopeful that someday they’ll let us add this feature. Remember, you can still browse through Instagram photos and videos, like them, read comments and see who else has liked them. You can also share Instagram photos and videos on Facebook and Twitter with focal. Why can’t I make any more lenses? We give all users 8 free lenses! If you are using all 8, you must either delete a lens or you can buy additional ones. To learn how to buy more, see below: "I'd like more lenses! Where do I buy them?" I'd like more lenses! Where do I buy them? Tap the Menu icon (top left corner) and then tap Upgrades. I’d like to look at some very old posts, but focal won’t go back in time any further. Why? Unfortunately the social networks limit how far back in time we can pull posts. Hopefully they will lift this limitation in the future. Why do I only see Twitter posts in my Most Recent lens? Your Most Recent lens has the newest posts across all your networks. If all you’re seeing is Twitter, this means that the people you follow on Twitter have posted more recently than people on your other networks. In general, people tend to post more often on Twitter. Try toggling back in time (see “How can I see older posts?” in the How To section) to see older posts from all networks. Why can’t I add more people/topics/locations/feeds to my lens? You can add up to 12 different sources for a lens. Additional sources are available for purchase as part of the Pro Pack. Tap the Menu icon (top left corner) and then tap Upgrades. I added a new lens, but it was empty! What happened? This means there are no posts available for the person/topic/location you have chosen. Try adding another person/topic/location. I can’t see Facebook posts from one of my friends. Why? That person may not have posted recently. Facebook will only let us go back so far in time, then cuts us off. If that person has definitely posted recently, it could be their privacy settings are preventing focal from seeing their posts. The easy way to fix this is to have them download and login to focal! If they do not have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you can ask them to change their Facebook settings about Apps Others Use. Please tell them to do the following: Go to Facebook on the web and click on the Gear icon in the top right corner. From the drop down menu select Settings. From the left hand menu select Apps. Click on Apps Others Use. For best results, check all the boxes. The most important ones are: My Status Updates My Photos My Videos My Links Why can't I see pictures in one of my lenses? In the Lens Editing screen we give you the opportunity to turn types of posts on and off. You may have accidentally turned off the photo post type. To turn photo posts back on: From Lens View click Edit Tap All Post Types Confirm there are check marks next to the post types you would like to see Why am I seeing posts from people I don't know/I don't follow? If you add a Topic or Location as a source, you will see posts from across your social networks that are tagged with the topic or location you selected, just like you would in the Facebook, Twitter or Instagram apps. Will adding a person to a lens let them know? No! Never! The lenses you create are yours alone - no one else can see them unless you let them use the focal app with your accounts. I'm getting errors about Twitter or Facebook limiting my requests. Why? The social networks have restrictions on how often you can ask them for feed updates, make posts, etc. Hopefully they will lift these restrictions in the future. I share my iPhone/iPad/iPod touch with another person and I'm seeing their Facebook and/or Twitter feeds even though they've never used focal. Why? The other person who uses the device has their social media accounts integrated in the device's Settings. You should put your own accounts in Settings to see them in focal. (For more information, see the How To section: "How do I add or delete my Facebook and Twitter accounts in Settings?") Do you have plans to support any other social networks? Yes, we do!
